Imogen Harvey

Imogen Harvey, born in Hitchin (England), originates from a family of musicians and got her first cello lessons from her mother Sigma Bucka-Reitz already at the age of three.

She won several first prizes at competitions in London and Cambridge and successfully took part in „Young Musician of the Year“ of BBC.

At the age of 14 she played for maestro Paul Tortelier and started, aged 16, her studies with him and his wife Maud Martin-Tortelier in Nizza. In addition to that she took part in masterclasses, for example in Geneva (Conservatoire Superieure de Genève), Paris, La Chaud de Fond and in Nizza.

She played at the „Opera de Nice“ and in the „Orchestre National de Monte Carlo“ and became deputy solo cellist in the orchestra of „Theater des Westens“ in Berlin already at the age of 20.

Besides her soloist activity in Germany and abroad, she has performed with the Henschel-Quartett and took - as member of this ensemble - lessons with the Amadeus-Quartett at the Academy of Music Cologne.

Imogen Harvey is an experienced cellist, also in the range of show business, musical, operetta and TV. She has performed with artist such as Eartha Kitt, Shirley Bassey, Weather Girls, Queen Yahna, Jocelyn B. Smith, Milva, Udo Jürgens, Harald Juhnke, RIAS Big Band, Ray Brown Trio, Rolf Kühn, Till Brönner, Söhne Mannheims, Siegfried Jerusalem, Placido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti, the German Film Orchestra and in international musical productions such as „FMA - Falco meets Amadeus“ and „Aida“.

In 2007 Imogen Harvey founded the Trio Cosmopolitan together with the violinist Angela Jaffé and the pianist Michèle Gurdal.
